Recommendations
- Drink plenty of fluids. It is necessary, at the first sign of infection, take at least a glass of water eight ounces every hour. Thereby cleans the bladder and expelled bacteria that may be causing cystitis.
- Do not wait too long if you feel the need to urinate. The bladder is weakened by having to be extended to increase capacity and make room for the excess urine. Because of this weakening, the bladder is not strong enough to expel the urine causing germs and bacteria left on the urinary system.
- Applying heat is recommended to apply a warm compress to relieve pain in the lower abdomen.
- Take a sitz bath. If you're really burning, hot sitz bath can soothe the pain. However, pregnant women should not take this type of bathroom for long periods because it can cause birth defects or spontaneous abortions.
- Keep clean before having sex. Ask your partner to wash their intimate areas. Also recommended the use of condoms in the case of men who have multiple sexual partners.
- Wear cotton underwear. It is advisable to wear cotton underwear. In the case of women, half lined with cotton tights and loose clothing to allow you to breathe the genital region, and also keep it dry. For men, shorts shorts are preferable to tight.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is an irritant to the urinary tract. Therefore, it should be avoided during a bladder infection.
- Changing the method of birth control. The use of the diaphragm can compress the bladder neck and hurt, causing inflammation that obstructs the passage of urine. Similarly, spermicidal jellies and foams cause disturbances in the vaginal defense mechanisms allowing bacteria to survive and pass into the bladder. For that reason, we recommend changing these methods of birth control.
- Keeping a diary of your bladder infections. It is advisable that a person suffering from recurrent bladder infections, keep a diary to identify patterns that precede an attack. That way you can discover whether their infections are related to sexual contact or other factors in order to make changes.
